Ford Mustang Bullitt

In november 2007 Ford introduced the Ford Mustang Bullitt at the Los Angeles motorshow. Where does the name Bullitt come from? The movie enthousiasts among us already know it. Bullitt was an in 1968 produced movie in which movielegend Steve McQueen played. This car was produced in memorial of that movie.
The dark green edition has a 4.6 liter engine which produces 315 hp. This was 15 hp more than the standard Mustang in 2007. Ford adjusted the chassis, the suspension and the brakes for the Bullitt. Furthermore the front of the car has no logo's and the exhaust was tuned to produce the sound of the Mustang which we know from the movie.

Truly legendary. The first Ford ‘Bullitt’ Mustang released was the 2001 model. A numbered, limited edition car, it sparked a whole generation of collectors. Not only those that were already into the classics, but a new group that wanted the power and prestige of the muscle cars, with the creature comforts of contemporary styling. So much so, that a new registry emerged: International Mustang Bullitt Owners Club (IMBOC).
Being a huge Mustang and car chase movie enthusiast, the launch of the car and IMBOC also inspired my husband, automotive artist Michael Irvine, to create the first of two Bullitt tribute paintings (“New to the Chase” and “The Legend Lives On”). Both feature the new cars added to a scene from the movie … very cool!
With Ford’s “Bullitt tribute” success, only time will tell if they’ll do it again with a third installment! – I hope so!
